This past week was the week of the arts event at the Park Heights JCC, where "Blood and Stone: A Legend of the Golem" was screened for the first time to an audience of Jewish Baltimoreans. Reactions were just about what I expected - generally positive, if a bit disappointed that there wasn't more. Being that the short is also a proof-of-concept, the fact that people felt there needed to be more is actually a good sign.
So, here I am, halfway through this second month of my pre-planned quest. I wasn't able to make DVDs to sell at the arts event (so, one goal missed, already), because my computer was giving me a lot of trouble. I've reached the conclusion that I need a new, reliable machine in order to feel comfortable moving forward with projects (especially with paid projects) in the next few months. The goal is to stick it out 'til late November, and then to take advantage of post-Thanksgiving sales to overhaul and upgrade my computer resource. Let the research begin!
In the meantime, this month has two fairly significant goals that I'd like to focus on.
First, there's the website, which really does have to get completed. Without a finished website, all the networking I've been trying to do is kind of pointless (since 'web presence' is a major measure of professionalism and reliability these days).
Second, there's the new short film. I'm waiting to get some feedback on the short that was submitted to me, but if the feedback is positive, I'd like to move forward on the project. Anyone out there in the Balto/Washington area interested in producing? Send me a line, I'll fill you in on the project. The goal for this month is to basically get much of the pre-production work done, so that the short can be shot in October. Since the holidays take up the first two weekends in October, it's most likely production itself won't happen 'til later in the month... so, in a way, there's still time.
I've got other goals for the month, but I don't think they're as time-sensitive, and I've got some irons in the fire to help move them along, too. (possible video work in a few places... nothing certain yet, but hopefully I'll have some firm agreements sorted out this week).
There's a lot to do, and a lot to focus on, but I'm determined to keep at it.
Shanah Tovah to those of you whose new year began this past week-end!
